terms

Last updated: 3 July 2026

These terms govern your use of PrivacyKit (the "site") and the tools it provides. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. The tools are free, and these terms are the trade-off for that: they set out what you can expect and what you cannot.

The tools are provided as-is

Everything on PrivacyKit is offered without warranty of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. That includes no guarantee that a tool is free of bugs, that it will produce a correct or complete result, that it will be available at any given time, or that it is fit for a particular purpose. The tools are built carefully and their methods are documented, but you use them at your own risk and should verify any result that matters.

Not professional advice

PrivacyKit's tools and guides are informational. They are not legal, security, financial, or other professional advice, and using them does not create any professional relationship. A password-strength estimate, a breach check, an EXIF report, or a generated privacy policy is a starting point, not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional about your specific situation. Decisions with real consequences — legal, security, or otherwise — should be checked with someone qualified.

Acceptable use

You may use the tools for any lawful purpose. You agree not to:

The tools run on your device, so how you use them is your responsibility.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, PrivacyKit and its operator are not liable for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or otherwise — arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or its tools. This includes any loss of data, loss of profits, or harm resulting from reliance on a tool's output. Where liability cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, it is limited to the maximum extent that law allows.

External links

The site links to third-party websites, including affiliate links and the external services that a few tools rely on. Those sites are outside PrivacyKit's control. Their content, products, and privacy practices are their own, and a link is not an endorsement of everything on the destination. Once you follow a link, that site's terms and policies apply, not these.

Intellectual property

The site's own content and code are the property of its operator, except where third-party open-source components are used under their own licences — those are credited on the licenses page. You may freely use the tools and their output; you may not republish the site's written content wholesale as your own.

Governing law

PrivacyKit is operated from Australia, and these terms are governed by the laws of Australia. Any dispute relating to the site or these terms is subject to the jurisdiction of the Australian courts, and nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. When they change, the date at the top of this page will be revised, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the revised terms. For questions about anything here, see the contact page.
